Glögg alcoholic
In the midst of winter, in the long dark and cold evening, a warm and rosy cheer is brought about by a nice glass of Glögg shared amongst a group of friends or neighbours. This is the classic recipe for Red wine Glögg with Rum
Red-wine Glögg Ingredients
- Home made Glögg concentrate (enough to make 5L of complete glögg)
- 500ml water
- 250 g sugar
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1/2 teaspoon of cloves
- 1/2 organic orange, ½ organic lemon (or if using ordinary orange/lemons make sure you wash the skin very well)
- 1 dl of port
- 1/2 dl dark rum
- 1/2 dl schnapps or vodka
On the day
- 1 bottle of good red wine
- 180 g of raisins
- 180 g chopped almonds
To make Glögg alcoholic
Boil water and sugar together with the spices into a syrup. Cut the orange and lemon in thin slices and add them to warm syrup. Leave to cool. Add the Glögg concentrate, plus the port, rum and vodka, poor into bottles and leave to mature for a week in the fridge. On the day of the guest arriving, heat one part Glögg essence to 5 parts of red wine with the raisins and almonds.
