  • Cascarones & Easter Egg Confetti Surprises

       Fabulous fun for Easter;
Cascarones & Easter Egg Confetti Surprises.

Cascarones & Easter Egg Confetti Surprises

Wonderful confetti eggs fit for all parties and people who love surprises!

Just in time for Easter we came across this fabulous and fun idea: Cascarones. They are mostly used in Mexico during Carnival, but in US and Mexico border towns the cultures combined making them a popular Easter tradition.
Confetti Easter eggs, also know as Cascarones are like mini piñatas for your head. The tradition goes that hollowed out eggs gets broken on the head of a friend, showering them with confetti and good luck.
The etiquette is that the Cascarones are not thrown but broken by a hand over the head. The hand must come into contact with the other persons head!

We like that idea a lot …twist it a bit and you can turn it into a game..the Cascarones Easter eggs can be filled with anything from cake sprinkler, paper confetti, bird seed, glitter, poppy seeds, dried lavender etc and this would be perfect for all happy occasions throughout the year.

    You will need:

    • Raw eggs
    • Egg dye or paint (you could use either vinegar, food colouring or acrylic paints)
    • Confetti (or a filling of your choice)
    • Tissue paper (cut into smaller circles or squares)
    • PVA Glue

    Instructions for making
Cascarones & Easter Egg Confetti Surprises:

We suggest to prepare the eggs early (this means you will have time to collect lots of eggs when using them in your cooking).

    • Make a small'ish hole with a baking metal skewer or similar in the egg (around the size of a 5 pence piece). The hole should ideally be made at the larger end of the egg if possible.
Ensure that you empty all the raw egg out and wash the egg really well. You may need to pierce the egg yolk to help it to come out.
Once the egg is empty and clean (even adding a little bleach may help to loose any smell), leave them to dry.
Collect as many as you possibly can…the more the merrier!
    • Use dye to colour the eggshell or paint with acrylic paint or gouache. Allow to dry thoroughly.
    • Fill the egg about halfway with confetti (or whatever you decide to put inside). Use a funnel if needed. You can make one by rolling paper into a cone and snipping the top off. You could also use more tissue paper to cover the whole egg instead of painting it...
    • Cut a piece of tissue paper slightly larger in size than the egg’s hole. Glue the paper to the edges of the hole. Wait to dry and you are ready to party!

Variation on this would be to fill a winner one with gold glitter….
.. or leave one of two raw if you are being very naughty and know your friends very well! Or fill it with jelly…oh dear this could turn into a bit of a messy day but really really fun.
Don’t forget to get some great prizes and have change of clothes ready.

  • Colourful Mini Piñatas - Fabulous party favours

Make fabulous colourful mini piñatas for any occasion.

    crafts hanmade mini pinatas

Mini piñatas make the most fantastic, frilly and flamboyant surprises made simply from toilet rolls, tissue paper, glue and a bit string.

Fill with treats, hang or place tables and wait for the kids to pull the string to reveal the goodies.

    How to make the piñatas:

You will need to cover one end of the toilet roll with a thin’ish paper as this is where the piñata is opened to reveal the treat inside.
We have used tissue paper and this is the first step to making your piñata.

    Instructions:

    • Cover the end of your toilet roll with paper and secure a piece of string well to this paper before you attach to the roll. The string will need to be secured on what is the inside of the roll but with a ‘toggle’ coming out from the side. This string will make it possible to pull away this piece of paper at the end.
    • Now secure the piece of paper with the toggle sticking out at the side, loosely. Either use a glue stick in 4 places or some sticky tape in a couple of places.
    • Next you decorate the roll in paper starting from the bottom (where we have attached the string and paper end), working your way up. You can either cut a fringed edging onto a piece of paper and twist it all the way round till you get to the top, securing it as you go along with glue or..
    • Fold a piece of tissue paper lengthways and cut large fringes along the folded edge. Once this has been done, fold out the cut edge side and fold in exactly the opposite direction. This creates a ‘puffed’ fringed look which gives a lot of ‘body’ to the paper and the piñata. (we have used this method on the piñatas on the images here).
    • Next attach all the way round and secure with glue as you go along. We have cut lengths in different colours. Continue till you get to the top.
    • Fill your piñata with your treats.
    • Close and secure the top with sticking tape or glue more paper over the edge by squeezing the top toward each other. Or close by attaching a round piece of paper at the top – this makes it a little more fiddly and can be hard to attach a hanging string too but looks great as the roll shape is maintained all the way.
    • If hanging the piñata up. Just attach a piece of string through the top of the closed edge.

Have lots of fun making these. Nicky x
