Ghostly Cupcakes

(Makes about 12 cupcakes)

Spooky; these cute ghostly cupcakes are perfect for a Halloween party. Not only do they look great but no doubt they will go down a storm with all the little witches, skeletons and zombies alike.

  • 115 grams of unsalted butter at room-temperature
  • 130 grams granulated sugar
  • 3 large free-range eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 200 grams plain flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 60ml of milk
  • Ready rolled white icing
  • Black food colouring or an edible ink pen

  1. With an electric whisk, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each egg.
  3. Next add in the vanilla extract and mix altogether.
  4. In a separate bowl sieve together the flour, baking powder and salt.
  5. With the mixer on low speed, add the flour mixture and then the milk in three separate go’s beginning and ending with the flour. Scrape down the sides of the bowl.
  6. Evenly fill the cup cake cases with the cake mix, place in the middle of the oven and bake for about 18-20 minutes or until nicely browned and a toothpick inserted into a cupcake comes out clean.
  7. Remove from oven and place on a wire rack to cool. Once the cupcakes have completely cooled, you can decorate them.

Ghostly Cupcakes

Create the little ghosts

  1. To create your ghost, unfold the ready rolled icing, cut-out circles, use a coffee cup as your guide to trace around.
  2. Make a small ball of icing and place in the middle of the cupcake. Next ‘drape’ the circle of icing on top of the cupcake in a ghostly manner and use the black food colouring/edible ink pen to draw up the ghost’s features. For just ghostly or zombie faces, cut out circles with a scone cutter, place on top of the cupcake and use black food colouring/edible ink pen to draw up the ghost’s features.
