Tasty White bread Rolls/Baguettes

A simple and tasty recipe for super delicious breakfast rolls. Prepare the dough the night before and leave to rise overnight in a covered bowl. In the morning, turn on the oven to 225C and divide the mixture into 10-12 individual rolls or two baguettes – please note that the dough is very sticky, to avoid the dough sticky to your hands, just wet your hands in between dividing each roll. Dust the rolls with a little flour. Bake in a hot oven for 20-25 minutes or until they are beautifully golden.

Ingredients

  • ½ a sachet of dried yeast, 3.5g
  • ½ litre cold water
  • Ca. 600 grams of organic strong flour
  • 1 ½ tsp salt

Method

In a bowl mix the flour and salt together, make a well in the middle of the flour mixture

In a jug mix together the yeast with the water and leave to stand for a couple of minutes

Add the water/yeast mixture to the dry ingredients, using either a wooden spoon or an electric mixer – do not use your hands as this dough is quiet sticky.

Cover the bowl with cling film and leave to stand overnight – If you wish to speed up the rising process, add 7 grams of yeast in ½ l of tepid water and a ½ tsp of sugar, mix together and leave to stand for a couple minutes before adding to the flour mixture. Cover the bowl with cling film and leave to rise in a warm place for 2-3 hours

Bread baked in clay pots

What could be more pleasing than setting a table for a hearty Sunday lunch with friends and family, serving beef stew or vegetable soup with home baked bread in small clay pots. Your children will find it great fun helping with this baking project: Use the recipe above for tasty white bread rolls

Before you are able to use the small clay pots, you will need to leave them to soak for 2-3 hours in cold water and dried thoroughly. The pots can be used again and again – perhaps prepare the pots a day earlier.

Ensure that the pots are well covered with baking paper and that the paper comes above the sides of the pot. Pour the dough into the pots, leaving a gap of 1-2cm from the edge. Place the clay pots on a baking tray in the middle of a preheated oven of 225C.

Bake for ca. 35-40 minutes.
