Candy Cane Hearts

Great fun and quick edible craft project to do with the kids, maybe make for dad on Valentine’s day or for mum on Mothers day….should take no more than 30 min max to make from start to finish.

We have used:

  • Pack of 12 candy canes (sku 700-105)
  • Greaseproof paper
  • An oven

Candy Cane Hearts

How to:

  • Set the oven to 140-150 degree Celsius and allow to warm up for 10 min or so.
  • Unpack the candy canes; I would suggest making one heart first to judge oven time etc…
  • Lay 2 candy canes on grease proof paper facing each other to make the shape of a heart.
  • Place in the oven for around 2-3 min, checking now and then to see if they have become soft and pliable.
  • Once soft enough remove from oven and gentle ease into shape, using either fingers or end of a wooden spoon (can be very hot to touch initially) and laying top and bottom ends on top of each other to secure the top and the bottom of the heart.
  • Don’t overwork as they will cool quickly and break.
  • Place back in the oven again for 1-3 minutes and take out to work on again. This should usually be enough time to get the shape required and secure both ends of the heart.
  • Cool and enjoy…

Please ensure that any kids helping you, are made aware that hot candy gets VERY hot and can stick to the skin.
If canes are left in the oven for too long, the candy will become liquid and very hot to touch and could cause burns.
