Jute Twine Lantern

You will need:

  • Clean recycled jam jars..most shapes suitable but bear in mind that you will need to be able to fit a t-light inside.
  • Jute twine
  • Scissors
  • PVA glue
  • Glue gun (project can be done without but this will make it so much quicker and easier.
  • Assorted decoration, heart or gift tags.

  • Prepare your jam jar by making sure they are nice and clean and thoroughly dry.
  • Brush PVA glue onto the area on the jam jar that you wish to be covered in twine.
  • Next secure one end of your twine with a glue gun or alternative (if you are not using a glue gun), lay the end of the twine across the PVA so that you will be wrapping the jute twine over this part when covering the jar.
  • Next wrap the twine carefully round the jar very closely and tightly together. This should be carried out all the way to close to the top of the jar.
  • When covered as much as you would like the jar to be, secure the end of the twine with a glue gun or again hold in place until PVA or other glue is dry. Or be really clever and use seal and wax…this will do the job beautifully too!
  • The jar can now be decorated with any small decoration, other ribbon, tags or left just with the jute twine wrapped round.
